Brian J. Payne
is the managing member of the Small Business Law Firm of Payne & Associates, LLC.  Brian's areas of practice include business start-ups, corporate law, limited liability company law, business acquisitions, trademarks, trade secrets, covenants not to compete, and nonprofit law.

Brian currently is legal counsel to the South Carolina Better Business Bureau Board of Directors, legal counsel for the Midlands Chapter of SCORE (a U.S. Small Business Administration affiliate), and former Chair of the Advisory Board to the Frank L. Roddey Small Business Development Center.

Much of Brian’s work involves positioning development stage businesses for further growth. Brian obtained his Jurisprudence Doctorate from the University of South Carolina, School of Law in 1998. He completed his Master’s Degree coursework in philosophy at Villanova University in 1995 and his Bachelor’s Degree coursework in the humanities and philosophy of science at the University of Minnesota in 1992.
